Два дана пре почетка пролећа, на целом свету се обележава Дан ластавица. Ласте „прате“ лепо и топло време, па се у овом периоду године враћају и у Србију са југа, и својим перформансом најављују нам пролеће, свежину и цветање. Називамо их још и весницима пролећа. Овај надимак ласте су добиле по богињи пролећа Весни, из словенске митологије, и сваки пут њен долазак пропраћен је свечаним цвркутом ластавица.
Кратка историја добродошлице ластавицама
Давне 1776. забележено је да су у Калифорнијски град, Сан Хуан Капистрано, стигли нови становници – ласте. Људи су били фасцинирани овим птицама и убрзо су приметили да оне ипак не бораве током целе године у њиховом месту, али се увек враћају у марту. У то време нису биле изучене миграције птица, па су многи сматрали да у периоду када нису присутне, ласте одлете чак до Месеца.
Први пут, у марту 1930. скромно је одржан школски наступ у знак добродошлице ластама, док је широм света овај датум добио значење тридесет година касније, 1960.
За становнике Сан Хуан Капистрана, овај празник је веома важан, на шта указује њихов заједнички труд да уз песму, игру и различите скечеве приреде почасни дочек ластама, а у организацији учествује и председник државе. Овако су ђаци поздравили доспеле ласте 1936. уз песму „Good Morning Mister Swallow“ („Добро јутро господине ласто“).
У последњих неколико година, традиционална парада изгледа мало другачије. Улице су затворене за саобраћај, а њима се крећу људи одевени у различите костиме. Градом се шире веселе боје, раскош и осмеси. Ове године парада ће се одржати 23. марта.
Упознајмо ласте
Ласте припадају породици Hirundinidae, једној од група у оквиру реда Passeriformes који обухвата све птице певачице. Постоји око 90 различитих врста од којих су неке селице.
На сваком континенту, па чак понекад и на Антарктику, можемо да пронађемо ласте, па за њих кажемо да су космополитски распрострањене. Како их највише има у Африци, сматра се да одатле и потичу.
Адаптивна мода
Најчешће се срећемо са сеоском ластом (Hirundo rustica), и када је посматрамо, можемо да уочимо да је шаренолика. Њен трбух је бео, ситна пера око кљуна и између очију су наранџаста, глава је плава, и то плавило се спушта на пера крила и нијансира се до сиве. Прелепо, зар не? ☺
Комплетан изглед тела представља адаптацију на специфичан начин исхране. Ласте се хране ловећи инсекте у лету. Компактне су и витке, са дугим и шиљатим крилима, што им омогућава брз и прецизан лет ка плену.
За ситан плен потребан је и оштар вид, па тако ласте имају добро развијено чуло вида. Очи су крупне, округлe, са скоро једнаком ширином и висином што повећава опсег видног поља. У унутрашњости сваког ока налази се двоструко поље, fovea, у области жуте мрље са улогом у изоштравању вида. Поређења ради, људи имају само једно поље са овом функцијом.
Кљун је кратак, вилице су снажне, гркљан је широк, и читава структура може јако да се отвори, што се најбоље уочава у тренуцима када млади птићи прихватају храну од мајке.
Кад се ласта заљуби
Њихов плес у ваздуху нема улогу само у лову. Оне ову вештину користе и за завођење у сезони парења, пропраћено посебном песмом, а примећено је да женке при одабиру партнера дају предност мужјацима са дужим репним перима. Када једном пронађу своју „сродну душу“ са њом бирају погодну локацију за прављење гнезда и углавном остају моногамне до краја живота. Свој дом праве од различитих гранчица које прикупе, а као лепак користе блато или сопствену пљувачку и због овог умећа сврставају се у најимпресивније архитекте у природи.
Занимљивости
Неке јединке праве гнездо само од пљувачке, и у Кини се таква гнезда сматрају деликатесом чија вредност износи између 2.500 – 10.000 долара.
У Србији, Друштво за заштиту и проучавање птица Србије (ДЗППС) организује такмичење под називом „Домаћинство које су ласте изабрале” и тада се награђује домаћинство са највећим бројем гнезда. Према подацима са званичног сајта ДЗППС 2017. године, прво место припало је домаћинству са 43 гнезда које су направиле сеоске ласте.
Сеоска ласта представља један од примера за птице са највећим миграцијама, не само међу ластавицама, већ међу птицама уопште. Ова врста, и друге миграторне ласте, често се у сезони парења врате у исто гнездо у ком су се излегле или претходно размножавале.
Поред већ поменуте сеоске ласте, у Србији се среће и градска ласта, Delichon urbica, коју карактеришу бела пера на надрепном делу тела, као и смеђа врста Riparia riparia, у народу позната као брегуница.

На југу земље можемо да „налетимо“ на врсту, по изгледу сличну сеоској ласти, Hirundo daurica. Док у пећинама и дубоким кањонима централне и јужне Србије, често свој кутак пронађе врста Ptyonoprogne rupestris – пећинска ласта.
